Crop’s commits to SBTi, from farm to fork
The Challenge
Do you know where the mango comes from, and what its climate impact is?
Crop’s supplies private label products to the food industry, with ingredients from countries of origin all over the world. Flemish broccoli or pineapple from Costa Rica: every vegetable and every piece of fruit has its own climate impact. Under its ‘Do Food Good’ motto, Crop’s wants to not only know those emissions, but also reduce them. That is why the company committed to SBTi. The initiative translates the Paris Agreement into company-level targets and validates them externally. Crop’s sets the bar high: the commitment covers the entire group, from recipe development and head office to every production site.
We clarified what an SBTi commitment would mean for Crop’s, and are aligning the base-year carbon footprint with the rules of the GHG Protocol and SBTi. Where data was missing, we fill the gaps. We also calculate the FLAG emissions: emissions from land use and agriculture, which often make up the largest share of a food company’s footprint. For the most important crops, we identify the levers with the most impact per product and region of origin. That way Crop’s stands stronger with every customer who asks about climate action: with numbers, not promises.
